Shannen was born Memphis,Tennessee April 12,1971 age 38.The Daughter of Rosa, a beauty parlor owner. and Tom Doherty, a mortgage consultant.Shannen has Irish Catholic ancestry,though was raised in her mothers Southern Baptist religion.At the age of 7 her family moved to Los Angeles, and she immediately announced that she wanted to be an actress.
"When I was 9 my mother developed a excruciating headache and had to be hospitalized.She was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.She came though it but it was still terrifying.The following year my father had a massive stroke.In the single year I nearly lost both of my parents" said Shannen.
